Hillwalking training days

Our Land Activities SASU are running two hillwalking training days over the weekend to enable you to work towards either a T1 or T2 summer permit.

 

Both days are stand alone and you can attend one or both depending on the level of your need.  This is a non-residential event.

1st Response - Life support (module 10A session 1)

Type: Area Training


This is part one of a three part course, and all three online sessions must be attended to complete module 10A, but you can mix and match session dates, including with other Areas/Counties.  Attendance on all 3 sessions is compliant to return to face to face Scouting, but a short practical assessment (module 10B) will be available soon and must be completed (or an external certificate obtained) within 6 months of transition to the Green covid recovery phase.

 

1900-2100

 

Aim: This course aims to cover the knowledge and skills necessary to enable members of The Scouts and Girlguiding to provide basic first aid and ensure safe management of a first aid incident.

 

Objectives:  By the end of the training participants will have had the opportunity to be

     provided with simple first aid information which is relevant to their role.

     helped to build confidence and skills in coping with emergency and first aid situations.

     equipped with the knowledge needed to manage these emergencies.

Outdoor climbing training

26-27 June 2021

Venue: Box Bay, Porthcawl (Sat); Woodcroft Quarry, Chepstow (Sun)

Type: Area Training


This course will teach those who can already climb, belay, and work with groups the additional skills needed to set up top rope climbs and abseils in line with the criteria for a Scouts Natural Top Rope Climbing and Abseiling Permit.

Attendees will be expected to consolidate their new skills and practice prior to assessment for a Permit at a later date.

Assessment day for those wishing to obtain a summer hillwalking permit.  An application form including logbook of experience must be submitted electronically for review prior to the course.

Gwentrek

24-26 September 2021

Due to ongoing COVID restrictions, Gwentrek will return in 2021 as a “hybrid” event.

 

If restrictions are sufficiently lifted to allow camping by then, unfortunately groups won’t have had sufficient time to prepare for an expedition competition.
