Hillwalking workshop

This session for volunteers, led by our Land Activities SASU, will be an opportunity to undertake a Q&A session and will give you a chance to test your skills.  1800 – 2100.

1st Response - Major illness (module 10A session 3)

Type: Area Training


This is part three of a three part course, and all three online sessions must be attended to complete module 10A, but you can mix and match session dates, including with other Areas/Counties.  Attendance on all 3 sessions is compliant to return to face to face Scouting, but a short practical assessment (module 10B) will be available soon and must be completed (or an external certificate obtained) within 6 months of transition to the Green covid recovery phase.

Aim: This course aims to cover the knowledge and skills necessary to enable members of The Scouts and Girlguiding to provide basic first aid and ensure safe management of a first aid incident.

 

Objectives:  By the end of the training participants will have had the opportunity to be

     provided with simple first aid information which is relevant to their role.

     helped to build confidence and skills in coping with emergency and first aid situations.

     equipped with the knowledge needed to manage these emergencies.

Outdoor climbing training

26-27 June 2021

Venue: Box Bay, Porthcawl (Sat); Woodcroft Quarry, Chepstow (Sun)

Type: Area Training


This course will teach those who can already climb, belay, and work with groups the additional skills needed to set up top rope climbs and abseils in line with the criteria for a Scouts Natural Top Rope Climbing and Abseiling Permit.

Attendees will be expected to consolidate their new skills and practice prior to assessment for a Permit at a later date.

Running Safe Activities (module 17)

Enables adults to plan and run exciting, safe and developmental activities for the young people in their section – covering topics such as roles and responsibilities, activity rules, planning, risk assessment process, and what to do when things don’t go to plan, as well as how we communicate and keep things safe.

Traditional Rafting / Bell Boating permit courses

Thinking about opening up another wide range of badges for your section?  Then why not undertake a Traditional Rafting OR a Bell Boating permit course with Tir a Mor Scout District at the Barry Boat Base.

 

10am – 4pm, cost to visitors is £10 per person.  Both courses run separately so you can only sign up for one course.  Over 18 only and will be a first come first served basis due to limited availability.

Hillwalking permit assessment

Air Rifle Instructor Course (YPST Diploma and Target Sprint Leader)

This course will provide you with all of the information you need to safely run Target Shooting as an Activity with your Young People through the Youth Proficiency Scheme (YPS).  It will also provide you with the British Shooting Target Sprint Leaders qualification allowing you to introduce your Young People to the fast and exciting sport of Target Sprint.

Gwentrek

Due to ongoing COVID restrictions, Gwentrek will return in 2021 as a “hybrid” event.

 

If restrictions are sufficiently lifted to allow camping by then, unfortunately groups won’t have had sufficient time to prepare for an expedition competition.

This Course is intended to provide the knowledge needed to run Tomahawk Throwing safely as an activity within Scouting. The course is a full day and will include:

  • Rules within POR
  • Setting up a safe range
  • Target selection
  • Equipment choice and maintenance
  • Successful participation
  • Running the activity safely

 

The course will cost £40 per person and a certificate of participation will be provided at the end of the course.
